Good Afternoon, this is Steve Mares, principal of Athens Drive Magnet High School with an important message to share with our school family.
Because I believe it is important to keep all of our families informed, I want to share information about an incident involving one of our teachers.
Over the holiday break, the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged one of our newest Athens Drive High School teachers for an incident that allegedly occurred while the teacher was employed in another school district. The science teacher was charged with one count of sexual activity while teaching at West Henderson High School. There is no indication at this time that West Henderson High knew of the incident until they were informed by the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Please understand that we take these situations seriously and as soon as we were notified of the allegations, we acted immediately to address the situation. The teacher has been suspended pending an investigation.
Please also know that your child’s safety is of paramount concern to us and we will continue to take every measure to ensure that safety. If you have any questions or concerns, I encourage you to contact the school office at 919-233- 4050.
Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and school.
