Athens Drive High School,
I want to share information with you about an incident that happened on our campus today.
As school dismissed around 2:20 this afternoon, a large fight broke out. The fight included students from Athens Drive High and other schools.
One Athens Drive student was injured. I arrived in the parking lot with other school staff about this time, and the fight ended.
We immediately called EMS to assist our student and Raleigh Police Department to investigate the assault. The student was taken to the hospital. Raleigh police are investigating criminal actions involved in the altercation. I am working with WCPSS Security to determine appropriate disciplinary action for the students involved.
The entire incident lasted just a few minutes. Afterwards, out students safely left the parking lot headed home. Through the rest of the afternoon, we continued athletic activities at school without incident.
Please know that I care passionately about our students and our school. We are committed to providing a safe environment at Athens Drive focused on teaching and learning.
If your student wants to discuss any concerns that they might have, please let them know that they can come and speak with me. If you have any concerns, call me by contacting the school office at 919-233-4050.
I have asked Raleigh police and WCPSS Security to be on campus for the start of the school day on Friday.
School staff and law enforcement are working to keep students and school campuses safe. We will continue to take every measure to ensure the safety of our children.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
