America’s leading expert on nurturing young talent shows you the most important universals of interviewing for ANY college, ANY job, or ANY career, based upon his fifty years of contributions to the Broadway, dance, music, film and television careers of thousands of successful performers.

Presented by renowned Harvard-educated, Julliard-trained educator, speaker, producer, musician, and writer Peter Sklar, who has coached Sarah Jessica Parker, Reese Witherspoon, Tessa Netting, Ricki Lake, Mischa Barton, Hunter Parish, Laura Osnes, Lori Loughlin, Holly Marie Combs, and countless others. An eye-opening event for kids, teens, parents, teachers, and young adults.

Please note that this lecture is designed to be especially entertaining and relevant to parents. Everyone under the age of 18 must have at least one of their own, actual parents present for the entire lecture.

Young adults (age 18 or older) will benefit profoundly from the talk and are welcome and encouraged to attend with or without a parent.

The thrust of Peter Sklar’s talk is how the process of becoming successful applies universally, whether in the classroom, interviewing for college, or the overall job market and beyond. These include:

• Developing emotional self-awareness and self-discipline, onstage and off
• Understanding that what you have for breakfast is just as important as your talent and passion
• Having a sober perspective on romantic relationships
• Working hard, but working smart at something you love

We suggest that all participants- especially teens and children- have a full glass of water just before the lecture.

Hydration improves listening skills… you’ll notice a big difference!

The Athens Drive Vocal Ensemble will be on the air TOMORROW, Wednesday December. 10  

Go to wralfm.com and click on the Christmas Choir Competition link to vote for Athens Drive.

Vote as many times as you can and share with family, friends, neighbors, facebook contacts and twitter. 

The voting extends from 7 am – 9 pm each day.

If we get the most votes on that day, we go into the final round on Thursday, December 11 and will qualify for either $1000, $2,000 or $5000 prize.

This is quite an honor as WRAL broadened eligibility from seven to eleven counties this year!!

LEND ME A TENOR

A Comedy by Ken Ludwig

The Athens Drive Theatre Department’s 2013 fall production is Lend Me a Tenor, a comedy set in 1934 at the Cleveland Opera Company.

The story involves renowned tenor Tito Merelli who has signed on to play Othello but he arrives late and, through a set of crazy circumstances, passes out after mixing wine with a huge dose of tranquilizers. Believing that the divo is dead, the excitable opera manager taps his hapless assistant, an aspiring singer named Max, to replace Merelli. Meanwhile, the tenor’s jealous wife, his ambitious female co-star, Max’s young girlfriend and the flirtatious head of the opera guild are on the scene fighting—sometimes literally—for the star’s attention.

Lend Me a Tenor will be Thursday Nov. 21-Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:00PM in the school auditorium.

The stars of the play are Matthew Washington, Sami Schneider, Sabrina Palazzo, Grace Gibbons, Will Sideris, Nick Taylor, Ryan Hippe, and Tara Boldrin.

Tickets are only $5 if purchased before Wednesday, November 20 and are $8 the night of the show.

To buy an advance ticket you can follow the instructions on the form available in the arts hallway or send money in an envelope with name, number of tickets and the date to Mrs. Trimmer, the Theatre Arts teacher in Trailer #6.

The ADHS Theatre Boosters are selling coupon books for $30 and HoneyBaked Ham gift cards in increments of $10 on up to benefit the Theatre Department. They will also be selling poinsettias in December so watch for further information about that fundraiser.

NCSMA is a statewide organization that promotes excellence in scholastic journalism and encourages respect for freedom of the press.  Critique services of NCSMA offer annual opportunities for students and staff to distinguish themselves.  Experts in magazine, newspaper and yearbook production judge North Carolina’s scholastic publications in three classes, according to school enrollment.  Award categories include Achievement, Honor, Distinction, and All North Carolina.  From the latter category, Tar Heel awards are presented to the highest scoring publications in each class.

Athens also received a Gallery of Excellence Award from Walsworth Publishing Company for their outstanding book.
