]]> Classroom Supply Grant Committee Meeting
March 11th @ 9:00 a.m.

Classroom Supply Grant applications have been received and it’s time to review them and award some grants!

PTSA Officers, along with Principal Mares and four parent volunteers, will review and discuss the submitted grant applications and vote on them.

The review meeting will be done online on THURSDAY, MARCH 11th from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Volunteers will be emailed the grant applications to review before the meeting date. The meeting link will be sent to volunteers via email as well.

Students: Have fun unleashing your inner artist with PTA Reflections! This year’s theme, “Heroes Around Me,” calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts. Categories include: dance, film, literature, music, photography, and visual arts. Visit the Reflections virtual art gallery and learn more about prizes and scholarships at PTA.org/Reflections. Entry deadline is October 31st. Turn in all entries to the Main Office – completed entry paperwork must be included with each piece. ]]> Because of Hurricane Florence, we needed to pack up the Backpack Buddies bags today to be sent home Wednesday. THANK  YOU to everyone who answered our desperate plea for early donations!!! We know you probably had to fight crowds at the grocery stores in order to get your donation items. Please know that your efforts are SO appreciated by the Backpack Buddies coordinators, and especially by the students who will receive the food! Thanks to your generosity, we were able to pack up extra items to provide for the additional meals these students will be missing due to the school being closed on Friday. Just look at all these FULL bags!

Thank you also to the staff for letting us take over the Teacher’s Lounge for packing up since our usual packing space was being used for a class today.   : )

The need?

  • There were between 50-60 students in the 2016-2017 school year who were considered homeless (living in hotels, with
    friends/relatives, shelters)
  • 43.52% of students are on free/reduced lunch in 2016-2017 at Athens Drive.

What we already have …

  • Food Pantry in Student Services.
  • Ekklesia Church providing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.
  • Reactive teachers!

Our plan:

  • Start a backpack buddies program here at Athens!
  • Send identified students home with food to get them through the weekend
    • 3 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts, and 2 snacks
  • Have each week of the month covered by a business/church group etc.
  • Have food donations dropped off by Wednesday
  • Pack drawstring backpacks on Thursday
  • Distribute Friday of each week

How can YOU help?

  • Draw string backpacks – do you have one sitting around your house?  Send it in to Student Services!
  • Volunteers to pack the backpacks – let us know you’re interested

  • Not able to help prepare the backpacks?  Donate gift cards/monetary donations are welcomed (local grocery stores)!  Send in to Student Services, Attn: Kendall Boothe

The Athens Drive HS PTSA is delighted to offer an exciting hands-on driving experience that will change the way young drivers think behind the wheel.
As a not-for-profit driving program taught by First Responders, StreetSafe puts teens behind the wheel, giving the drivers & their parents the tools they need to be safer on our roads.

Due to limited space at our school, places are available at an event being held at Holly Springs High School. We urge all of our young drivers to attend.
