We are excited to kick off the school year with our first PTSA Meeting on Tuesday, August 28th at 6:30 p.m. in the Athens Drive Community Library. This is an important meeting, as we will be voting on our proposed 2018-2019 Budget, as well as voting in Sherry Skinner as Vice President and Laurie Cockman as Secretary.
The other focus of this meeting will be to discuss and answer any questions about the various PTSA volunteer opportunities. There are lots of different programs and committees to choose from. We like to think we have a little something for everyone!
Often, parents do not get involved in PTSA because they are afraid of getting sucked into a big time commitment. However, most of our programs are just a one-time event or even a once-a-month event. Many parents have told us, “I want to help out, but I don’t want to be in charge.” No problem! We welcome anyone who is willing to lend a hand, and we will help you find a volunteer opportunity that is just right for you.
And don’t forget about your Students – they are the “S” in “PTSA”! Membership will help your student stay “in the loop” about events around school. Student input is appreciated at meetings and offers a unique perspective of life at Athens. There are even opportunities for students to earn Service Hours volunteering at PTSA events, which looks great on a college application! And don’t forget that Seniors who are members can apply for one of three $500.00 scholarships awarded by our PTSA each year.
So please come to this meeting and learn more about getting involved in PTSA. Hope to see you then!
