The need?
- There were between 50-60 students in the 2016-2017 school year who were considered homeless (living in hotels, with
friends/relatives, shelters) - 43.52% of students are on free/reduced lunch in 2016-2017 at Athens Drive.
What we already have …
- Food Pantry in Student Services.
- Ekklesia Church providing Thanksgiving and Christmas meals.
- Reactive teachers!
Our plan:
- Start a backpack buddies program here at Athens!
- Send identified students home with food to get them through the weekend
- 3 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts, and 2 snacks
- Have each week of the month covered by a business/church group etc.
- Have food donations dropped off by Wednesday
- Pack drawstring backpacks on Thursday
- Distribute Friday of each week
How can YOU help?
- Draw string backpacks – do you have one sitting around your house? Send it in to Student Services!
- Volunteers to pack the backpacks – let us know you’re interested
