Treasurer’s Report – Karen Warr
- As of end of May 2016, the balance is 7,786.31. From the available balance funds yet to be dispersed include: $400 for the Baccalaureate, $400 for Pelicans, $3,000 for scholarships, building and grounds expenses, etc.
- Several checks were written this past month and after all checks clear, we should have over $3,000 as a starting balance for next year.
Administrative Report – Dr. James Hedrick – Principal
- Graduation went well!
- Everything from the organization by Mr. Remaley and Ms. Coticchio and the high degree of excellence of our chorus and band to the well thought out remarks of our student speakers is to be complimented. Well done, all!
- The baccalaureate was well attended and well structured. Thanks to all who organized and participated.
- Teachers return on August 19th. We are looking forward to a great start of the year with our Magnet theme.
- WCPSS has been in a hiring freeze for the last two weeks. We have 4 positions to fill when they release us. We do, however, have commitments for our chorus position and one Business position. Unless we get an unexpected resignation, all of our positions will be filled by July 4 holiday. We feel that we have attracted some great candidates to ADHS who will help carry us forward in the Magnet program.
- We had a good year, but not great. We have some more work to do to get to great and to become the consistent “tag changers” we need to be.
Membership Update – Lori Ladner
- We had more than 25% (84) increase from last year.
- Donations were also up $694.52 over 2014-2015.

Hospitality Update – Shanna Ratashak
- PTSA hosted an afternoon teacher celebration on Thursday, June 2nd with all kinds of desserts.
- Parents brought desserts and raffle prizes.
Senior Scholarship – Mary Martin
- This year we are pleased to be able to offer THREE 500 dollar scholarships to high achieving students at Athens: Aidan Berry, Jena Keesee, Sarah Chiavacci
- We had 22 applicants (up from 11 from last year), and their applications were evaluated by three NC State University professors. They ranked according to 3 categories: GPA, extracurricular, personal statement. The application process is the same as last school year except we have eliminated the personal reference requirement.
- The scholarship committee became aware of three students who not only put in the effort to pursue academic excellence but did so while overcoming extra challenges in their life.
- We pursued extra funding in order to create another scholarship program this year to recognize these students’ perseverance in less than ideal circumstances. Te’Asia Royster, Drake Dais, Xavier Milton have continued to work hard and make the most of their high school experience. We called this the EXTRA Effort Scholarship program. Ekklesia funded one of this $500 scholarship.
- The six awards were presented at the Seniors Award Assembly on May 26th.
- The six checks to the respectives colleges were issued on June 20th.
Uniform PTA Bylaws
We need one more person to join the audit committee. Shanna Ratashak and Myra Rappl have volunteered to be on the committee.
- We need volunteers for the nominating committee. This committee is a required standing committee, and the purpose of it is to discover, meet, interview and compile a Slate of Officers to serve in 2017-18.
