Good Afternoon, this is Steve Mares, principal of Athens Drive Magnet High School with announcements for the upcoming week. A copy of these announcements will be posted on our school website, emailed and texted to our school families, and e-mailed to the Athens Drive PTSA email group.
Please remember that Thursday, September 13th, is our Meet the Teacher Night at Athens Drive. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a Senior Parent Meeting in the Auditorium. If you have a Senior this year, please join Mr. Remaley and Ms. Brown for this informative session. Also beginning at 5:30 p.m., we will have a PTSA Informational session going on in the Cafeteria. Please feel free to stop by and see how you can support our PTSA. Our evening kicks off in your student’s Drive Time class where a schedule will be provided to each family. Please be sure you know the name and room number of your student’s Drive Time Teacher so that you can start your evening there and pick up your student’s schedule. Please see our website (https://bit.ly/2wRAlAI) for the schedule for the evening.
For students interested in Theatre, the Athens Drive International Thespian Society will be hosting their annual Theatre Celebration after school on September 11th from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Auditorium. Attendees will learn about the theatre program, meet other interested students, and play improv games. Everybody is welcome to attend!
Auditions for students interested in participating in the Fall Play, Football Romeo, will be held after school in the Chorus Room (Room 2228) on September 12th and 13th. To audition, students must have already completed an Audition form with their Parent/Guardian signature. Students will not be permitted to audition without this signed form. These forms, along with other important audition information, can be found on the Theatre call board located outside of the Chorus Room. For more information, please contact our Theatre Director, Ms. Hayes, at ahayes3@wcpss.net.
We will have Underclassmen pictures next Friday, September 14th. We ask students to dress appropriately and be here so that we can ensure that every student gets his/her picture in our yearbook.
The PSAT will be administered on Wednesday, October 10th at Athens Drive High School. All students that are interested in taking the PSAT must submit the completed registration form with payment or receipt of payment by September 21st, at 2:00 p.m. I sent a letter home today with all Sophomores and Juniors explaining the PSAT test administration. In addition, we also sent home personalized letters to select Juniors who are eligible to take the PSAT at no cost due to their weighted Grade Point Average being above a 4.313. Detailed PSAT information can be found on our website (https://bit.ly/2wSoVNj) or in Student Services. Please contact our Dean of Students, Ms. Brown (tbrown3@wcpss.net or 919-233-4050 ext. 24898), if you have further questions.
We met with our Seniors again today to ensure that they stay on top of deadlines and discuss scholarship information, Senior Events, Graduation information, etc. Part of our discussion today was with regards to Senior Conferences (that begin Monday, September 17th), Scholarships (e.g., Morehead-Cain, Park, etc.) that have deadlines fast approaching, getting started on college applications (the Common App is available for students to complete), Class Rank information (we will have official Class Rank information for Seniors available on September 25th), Senior Events, and other important information. The Senior year is a busy year and it is important for our students and their families to stay on top of all deadlines and due dates so that our students are set up for success once they Graduate. The best way to stay in touch regarding Senior Class information is to join two Senior Class text message notifications:

We did begin our Tardy Sweeps this week and our students are doing a great job of being in class, ready to learn at the bell. Thank you for your support in ensuring that all our students make it to class on time, each period, every day, all year.
I would like to remind all students and parents that students are not allowed to leave the campus during the school day. The only students authorized to leave campus during the day are students who are dual enrolled, have a Release Period, or otherwise have pre-approved permission to leave campus. During lunch, only Juniors and Seniors who have an approved Off-Campus Lunch Pass are allowed to leave campus. Please help us remind our students to stay on campus and not be tempted to leave campus during the day. Thank you for your support of the safety of our students.
Next Friday, September 14th, the Church that utilizes our school for Sunday services is hosting a free screening of the movie Screenagers. This is a film about growing up in the Digital Age. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., there will be pre-movie food and activities, and the movie begins at 6:30 p.m. Learn more about this opportunity at www.LoveAthens.org.
Our JAG Club is hosting a Fundraising event on Wednesday, September 26th, at Panera Bread Company, located at 2234 Walnut Street, Cary, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Please be sure to bring a flyer or show an electronic version to the cashier when you place your order, and Panera will donate a portion of the proceeds to the JAG Club. Please remember to come out to Jaguar Stadium tonight for our home football game against Enloe High School. It will be a special night at The Drive as we will be inducting our second class of the Athens Drive Hall of Fame, many of our Alumni are returning to celebrate together at reunions, our Band will be performing, students will be decked out for a Camo-out theme, we are celebrating Military Appreciation, and we will be celebrating together as a school family so many good things about our amazing school family during our pre-game tailgate! Please continue to support our student athletes as they compete on the field, track, and court! Please check our Athletic Team schedules on our Athens Drive Athletics website (http://www.wakecountyathletics.com/athensdrivehs).
Those are all the announcements for this week. Please continue to check the Athens Drive website (www.wcpss.net/athensdrivehs) for general information and to help you stay informed. I hope each of you has a wonderful weekend. Go JAGS and please take care.
