Audit Committee: This committee performs monthly/quarterly reviews of the PTSA’s bank statements and supporting documents, the Annual Financial Review, and files the Year-End Report with the NCPTA.
Backpack Buddies Program: The Athens Drive Backpack Buddies Program serves students in our school who do not have access to sufficient food outside of school. This program provides a bag of nutritious food on Fridays to assure students have meals over the weekend. Although this is not a PTSA program, the PTSA has committed to sponsoring one week a month to provide food and pack-up bags for our students in need.
Classroom Supply Grant Program: Each fall, the Athens Drive PTSA awards Classroom Supply Grants for needed resources or supplies that will enrich the educational opportunities for students. Grants are available for up to $100 and will be awarded sometime in October. Volunteers assist the PTSA board in reviewing and approving teacher grants.
Gardens & Grounds Committee: The Athens Grounds Committee was formed by the Athens Drive PTSA to address the problems with the campus landscaping. Groups of volunteers from various school clubs and departments offer their unique skills to add to improve the school grounds.
Hospitality Committee: The Hospitality Committee plans, organizes, and coordinates school hospitality events such as staff breakfasts, lunches, holiday treats, etc. They also work with the school staff to organize occasional hospitality events for school visitors.
Membership Committee: The Membership Committee assists with signing up and processing new PTSA members during school events such as Open House and Meet the Teacher.
Nominating Committee: The Nominating Committee networks with others to help find qualified candidates to serve on the PTSA in vacant Board or Committee positions, and helps recruit and sign up new PTSA members during school events such as Open House and Meet The Teacher.
Painless Fundraising Committee: The Painless Fundraising Committee plans simple fundraisers for the PTSA. These can include on-campus events, such as Open House and Meet The Teacher, as well as off-campus events, such as Rewards Nights at local restaurants.
Reflections Program (A National PTA Arts Program): This program allows students to submit various forms of art such as photography, videos, dance, visual art, etc. for judging. Reflections volunteers advertise the program around the school, collect and organize student entries, and plan a recognition ceremony for participants.
Senior Scholarship Program: The PTSA offers three $500 scholarships to Athens seniors who are PTSA members. The categories are All Around, Civic Minded, and Overcoming Adversity and are awarded during the Senior Awards Ceremony in May. Volunteers for this program assist with advertising the program, arranging judges to score the submitted applications, and present the scholarships.
Student Recognition Programs: The PTSA offers two Student Recognition Programs, Athens Achievers and Honors Recognition.
- Athens Achievers:
- This program recognizes students with help from Athens teachers. Every month, teachers nominate one of their students as their Athens Achiever of the Month. Consideration is given to students at ALL academic levels. These names are proudly posted on the PTSA bulletin board and on the PTSA website. All nominees are entered into a drawing for a chance to win a gift card! The PTSA asks for parent assistance with gift card donations and monthly drawings.
- Honors Recognition Ceremonies:
- The PTSA works with the school administration to provide recognition to students with cumulative weighted GPA’s above 3.5. In late April or early May, families are invited to attend grade-level ceremonies for students earning the Latin honors of Summa Cum Laude (4.25+), Magna Cum Laude (4.0-4.249), and Cum Laude (3.75-3.99), and an added Honors category (3.5-3.749). The ceremonies are followed by a brief informal reception. Not only do these ceremonies recognize students for their hard work, but it helps familiarize them with the Latin Honors system used at graduation. The PTSA asks parents for assistance with food item donations and reception setup.
