At our PTSA meeting on May 28th, we honored two amazing volunteers for their years of service to the PTA.
John Sykes has run the Grounds Committee at Athens for the last six years. He has coordinated all of the Campus Beautification Days with the Service Raleigh organization and on-campus service groups and clubs. He has also helped many Athens Drive Boy Scouts with their Eagle Scout projects. Next year, he will be busy with his job at the E.P.A., as well as focusing on his son Cooper’s senior year at Athens. Thank you for all of your hard work improving our school, John! We honored him with a BIG THANK YOU card, a whimsical gardening sign, and Cookies-n-Creme cupcakes – his favorite!
Sherry Skinner was nominated as our Wake County PTA “Star” Volunteer of the Year. She served as PTSA Vice President and Head of the Membership Committee this school year, and will continue both positions next year as well. Sherry has been a member of the PTA since her children started school, from Yates Mill Elementary to Dillard Drive Middle to Athens. She is driven by her desire to pitch in where needed and to help make a positive difference at our school. Thank you for all that you do, Sherry!
