The Athens Drive PTSA offers Merit Based Scholarships every year to student PTSA members based on the criteria of GPA, extracurricular activities in school and in the community, and a personal statement.
This year we are pleased to be able to offer THREE 500 dollar scholarships to high achieving students at Athens. We had 22 applicants this year, and their applications were evaluated by three NC State University professors.
One of the professors had this to say about the many qualified applicants. “I found it quite difficult to rank the candidates this year since they are all worthy of serious consideration and support. The candidates were of such quality that any university worthy of the name would welcome them. Moreover, to a man (or woman), they are all appreciative of the opportunities afforded them at Athens Drive and at the faculty there. School spirit runs deep and is not confined to sports, band, or other fun activities. Obviously, someone is doing something right and meaningful at Athens.”
This year we are pleased to award $500 scholarship each to these three individuals:
- Aidan Berry, Sarah Chiavacci, and Jena Keesee
During the evaluation of the many applications for this scholarship program, the scholarship committee became aware of three students who not only put in the effort to pursue academic excellence but did so while overcoming extra challenges in their life. The PTSA pursued extra funding in order to create another scholarship program this year to recognize these students’ perseverance in less than ideal circumstances. These students have continued to work hard and make the most of their high school experience. We are calling this the Extra Effort Scholarship program. So we are pleased to award THREE 500 dollar scholarships each to:
- Drake Dais, Xavier Milton, and Te’Asia Royster
